This public art gallery in downtown Edmonton, Alberta has a collection of over 6,000 works of contemporary art, but its most striking feature is the unusual building. Randall Stout Architects designed the structure with a massive ribbon of stainless steel that wraps around and through the interior. https://youtu.be/eJspG8mOR38
Called “The Borealis” the swooping lines represent the northern lights, a frequent occurrence in the Edmonton night sky. The borealis is the defining factor of the facade, but it also snakes through the gallery’s interior and even forms the roof’s canopy.
